Beautiful Day In Duluth

Good morning waking up to the sun in Duluth in the winter is not that common as one would think. After checking the weather you will see that it is going to be a very nice day. Get out there and do something, make a date with mother nature. Here is the hourly outlook from weather.com, and an awesome cartoon that I think you should take the time to watch featuring the Beatles and the tune "Good Day Sunshine".

5 Months

Well, what can I say..Time flies when you are having fun! Today was mine and my girls five month anniversary, which we are not able to be together on. I kinda forgot about it so I am writing this to make up for it. She is the best and this is why:

  • She always gives me the last bite of whatever we are eating
  • She supports me through and through with all the stupid stuff I do/or want to do
  • She comes and visits me in Duluth, even though it is a $100 trip in just gas alone driving her vehicle
  • She rips on a snowboard and wakeboard
  • She is a better photographer than I am
  • She is the most beautiful thing ever
  • She always asks me for my opinion on everything even if she doesn't really intend on listening to my answer
  • She can drive in the winter better than most women (no offense ladies)
  • She bought her own tool set and asked me to help pick it out with her
  • She made me my own candy dish to keep at her house that she fills with Reese
  • She is a big dork
  • She is really funny, I know I was shocked too..
  • She is the most driven person I have ever met
  • She likes condiments as much as I do
  • She looks really good in a swim suit
  • Ect....
and.....she really doesn't get upset for forgetting things like this, although she might after she reads the personal information I just shared with you.

Happy 5 month Kai!

Taste of Summer Edit #1

I have accumulated a large amount of footage from last summer. I wanted to put together kind of like a full length thing but don't really have the time. So, what I think I am going to do is put together a bunch of shorter edits and call them the "Taste of Summer Series" to get us all stoked on the up coming summer, as well as an individual edit for Ryan Taylor. Give me a break I haven't opened Final Cut in awhile and my editing skills are rusty. So here is the first of many put together by me featuring my friends from the wakeboarding we did last summer. Enjoy

Showing My Support

I would like to grab your attention this evening to talk a little bit about a an online company called rideminnesota.com. I first heard about this site when they posted "The Minnesota Edit"- a little edit compiled over the summer of 2009 by Ryan Taylor Visual- and was blown away. I was not aware that there was online boarding information site for Minnesotans. I knew of other sites that were sport specific, but not one that hosted all three of my favorite sports; skate, wake and snow. Here is some information from the founders them selves Tim  and Abraham Miller.

"RideMinnesota (previously Minnesota Boardsports) was created in the summer of 2006 by Tim Dunklee and Abraham Miller. Our goal was create an online community for all Minnesota boarders to stay current on news and events. The site has been completely designed and funded by ourselves for the good of Minnesota’s riding community."

Their Mission:
"To be Minnesota’s Premier resource for snowboard, skateboard, and wakeboard news, events, reviews, and information."

I recently sent a random email out to rideminnesota.com wondering if they could send me a logo to put on my blog. I really appreciate what they are doing and want to spread the love. Tim replied with four different logos for me and sent me four sweet stickers ta-boot. I like this site because not only do they post videos of my riding, but they post anything pertaining to the sports us enthusiasts enjoy, spreading the love of board sports for all.

If you have any questions, information, news, videos, pictures or ANYTHING that has to do with boarding shoot Tim an email: tim@rideMinnesota.com

Oh yeah and check out the site too if you are interested in advertising or just sharing the love!

Snow Board PhotoShoot 2/8

Hello, Yesterday was the last day for me to get my required photos for my first assignment in photo 5. Jared, Corey, Eric and Barry were kind enough to let me photograph them getting gnarly despite the really cold weather . Keep in mind that I wasn't going for the traditional shot of the whole rider and the trick. Rather, for this assignment my concept was to capture more of the boards response to the trick/maneuver/carve. There are also some shots in here as well that I took passing time as the guys rode back up the chairlift. See if you can tell which are which. These can also be seen on my Flikr account in better resolution HERE. Enjoy!

Nolan Maxwell Hanson III-Surprise Party

On January 20th Mrs. Hanson contacted Eric, Sam and myself with a request. These were her exact words

"Hey Chase, Max has always wanted a surprise birthday party. I was thinking of doing it this year. On the 5th of Feb. 2 things: Would you be able to come? Would you be able to help me get people? Again it is a surprise so say nothing to him please. Thanks for your in put. I have sent the same message to Eric
Jill"

Naturally I wanted to throw one of my best friends a surprise party, so after working out all the kinks Jill and I came up with a plan, Eric sent out a mass message on FB and Sam created an event to reach the endless amounts of friends Max has seemed to accumulate through his travels and schooling. It was a joint effort really.

Our plan was to convince Max to come home from Minneapolis to help throw a bachelors party for his neighbor, little did he know that was not what he was coming home for. We arranged to have everyone park in the neighbors driveway, meet at the bottom of the driveway and silently walk down to the broom ball rink in the Hanson's front yard. Then I needed to notify Jill, Via text messaging to send him down to turn on the lights.

Everyone arrived on time minus one lost soul....and with a little forceful encouragement Jill was able to get Max outside and down to the rink where the lights were turned on and we all yelled "SURPRISE" and he was surprised.

We all proceeded with high fives and the ever so popular question at surprise parties "Did you have any idea?"  We all had a beverage of our choice while Max got "Iced" in the most clever way (Kailee's idea, Ryan and Lindsay's hard work). Then it was broom ball time.

We played broom ball with 25+ people and it was a blast! The ice was very slippery and everyone fell and bodies were flying every which way. It was fun indeed, I scored the only goal for out team where I believe Ryan scored like three for the apposing team. (cherry picker).

After broom ball everyone was very parched and need refreshments. Refreshments we had while standing around the camp fire sharing memories and hear funny stories about Max from his older sister Carlie. (if you were there you know, laugh out loud).

Once word got out that there was food inside a mad panic broke loose as people ran for shelter and nourishment. Food was ate, and beer was drank. Thanks to Jill we did not go hungry or thirsty.

3:00am came faster than we wanted and after three hours of marinating in the hot tub it was time for bed. It was a great night with great friends and I am thankful for everyone who participated.

Max got his surprise party, the end.

Just in case my story was not vivid enough for you, here are some pictures from the evening.

"Surprise"

Eric was really stoked

Now you need to cut your cake
